University of Louisville Medical Students

All UofL Medical Students are gratis members of the Greater Louisville Medical Society and are welcome to participate in all GLMS events and attend committee meetings. Several are specifically for student:

  • White Coat Ceremony - The Greater Louisville Medical Society purchases every student's first white coat, which is presented to them at their White Coat Ceremony. Our physician members see this as a symbol of their support. GLMS also provides a professional photographer for students to have their first portrait made in their white coat after the ceremony. Photography services are provided by Hollie Colwick Photography. GLMS gives each student one 5x7 of their photo and they may choose to purchase additional through Hollie's websiteView photos from the 2014 White Coat Ceremony here.
  • Specialty Speed Networking - Typically held in early Spring, Specialty Speed Networking provides an opportunity for first and second year medical students to meet and speak with physicians from a variety of specialties to get a sense of what working in that specialty would be like. Physician volunteers stay seated at their table while groups of students move from table to table in 8 minute segments, much like speed dating. Specialties in attendance are usually chosen by a survey of the students' interests. See photos from the 2016 Specialty Speed Networking here.

Students typically provide their contact information at their White Coat Ceremony but may also do so, or update that information, by contacting Member Services at 502-736-6362 or membership@glms.org.
