Bruce Scott, MD, was re-elected to as Speaker of the House of Delegates for the Kentucky Medical Association.

GLMS member Dr. Timir Banerjee recieved the Jefferson Award from WDRB.  The Jefferson Awards recognize volunteers who transform lives and strengthen communities through dedication and service.

University of Louisville School of Medicine Dean Toni Ganzel, MD, MBA, was appointed to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the governing body that accredits medical education programs throughout the United States and Canada. She began her 3-year term on July 1, 2016.

Jeffrey P. Callen, MD, chief of the Division of Dermatology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, has been elected to serve on the Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) of the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). His two-year term begins Dec. 1, 2016.

Michael Lovelace, MBA, had the top project in Personal and Practice Leadership category as part of the Family Medicine Leads (FML) Emerging Leader Institute.

Nicholas Kenney, MD, received the Forty Under 40 Award from Louisville Business First for his important contributions in the local business community.

Wayne Tuckson, MD, has been recognized with the Lyman T. Johnson Distinguished Leadership Award for his outstanding health care work for minority populations and as a founder of the African-American Health Initiative.

Salvatore Bertolone, Jr, MD, received the third annual Marc A. Lehmann Spirit of Service Award. This award recognizes Louisville-area physicians in hematology & oncology and is presented in memory of Marc A. Lehmann, a Louisville native and UofL student who succumbed to acute myeloid leukemia in 2012.

 

Manuel Grimaldi, MD, was honored with a 2015 WLKY Bell Award. This award, given by the WLKY Spirit of Louisville Foundation, recognizes individuals who demonstrate the true "spirit of Louisville" through selfless volunteer efforts and inspires others to engage in community service.

 

Associate Member Eugene Shively, MD, was honored with the Compassionate Physician award at the 2015 Doctors' Ball.

 

Morris Weiss, MD, was honored with the Ephraim McDowell Physician of the Year award at the 2015 Doctors' Ball.

David Casey, MD, has been named chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

 

Gerald Lee, MD, was selected as Louisville Business First's Forty Under 40. This annual award honors the region's up and coming business leaders and community supporters under the age of 40.

 

Mona Tailor, MD, was selected for the Leadership Louisville Center's Ignite Louisville Class of Spring 2016.

Deepak Azad, MD, MPH, FACP, was elected as an AMA Alternate Delegate representing the Indiana State Medical Association.

 

Linda H. Gleis, MD, has been selected by the Kentucky Medical Association as the 2015 recipient of the KMA Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented annually to a KMA member who has provided outstanding service to patients, organized medicine and the community at large.  Dr. Gleis was also elected as KMA Secretary-Treasurer.

Faye Jones, M.D., Ph.D, MSPH, has been elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Practicing physicians are elected to the society in recognition of their scholarly achievements and professional contributions. The honor society includes more than 50 Nobel Prize winners. A professor of pediatrics, Dr. Jones is the medical director of UofL Physicians Pediatrics-Broadway, a primary care teaching practice of the UofL Department of Pediatrics.

Arun K. Gadre, MD, FCAS, Director of Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Louisville Department of Surgery, has been appointed by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear as a member of the Kentucky Licensing Board for Specialists in Hearing Instruments. The commission expires July 31, 2017.

 

February 2014

Patrick J. Murphy Jr., MD, director of the UofL Home Call Program and professor of geriatrics in the Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine, has been named one of six finalists for a the 2014 Medical Director of the Year award, presented by American Medical Directors Association-Dedicated to Long Term Care.

 

Martha J. Hasselbacher, JD, was awarded the Paul G. Tobin Pro Bono Service Award by the Louisville Bar Association for her work with Doctors and Lawyers for Kids, a program that is endorsed by GLMS. Ms. Hasselbacher is the wife of GLMS member Peter Hasselbacher, MD, and has written for Louisville Medicine.

Rejith Paily, MD, FACP, was voted "Best of Kentuckiana" in the "Family Doctor "category during this year's contest run by WHAS11. Dr. Paily practices Internal Medicine with Jewish Physician Group-Jefferson Medical Associates. "Best of Kentuckiana" recognizes businesses in categories like Automotive, Shopping, Entertainment and Professional Services.

 

Mary Tyler Burkhart, MD, will serve as co-president of the Louisville Society of Anesthesiologists in 2013. She practices with University of Louisville Physicians.

V. Faye Jones, MD, PhD, MSPH, has been accepted into the first class of the Healthcare Executive Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program, sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges and Georgetown University. Dr. Jones was one of 25 people nationwide accepted into the one-year program. A pediatrician, she is the associate dean of academic affairs at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

August 2012

Garrett Adams, MD, MPH, received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on Aug. 30. Dr. Adams, who earned his MPH in 1983, was one of five alumni to receive the award, given to those who "have brought credit to the university by their personal accomplishment, professional achievement or humanitarian service." Before the awards ceremony, Dr. Adams was on an alumni panel that discussed "Access to Healthcare Among Underserved Populations." Dr. Adams is president of Physicians for a National Health Program.

 

Jeffrey M. Bumpous, MD, FACS, was elected as a fellow-at-large to the American Head and Neck Society Council for 2012-13 at the eighth International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer in Toronto in July.
